Katy Ann Gilmore's architecturally inspired drawings, murals, and installations plunge viewers into imagined spaces using optical illusion.
Gilmore's geometric works, based on hand drawings, are informed by her studies in art and mathematics. She earned a BA in both subjects from Greenville University in 2011 and received an MFA from Azusa Pacific University in 2014. Gilmore's works transform two-dimensional grids into spaces with shifting vanishing points, creating the illusion of motion. She has described her works as resembling portals to another universe. Gilmore was an artist in residence at Red Bull Arts in Detroit in 2016. Her commissions include murals for Uber, Facebook, and Google.
