This CNC Machined Gear Kit is used to upgrade the Penn Spinfisher V series SSV5500 and SSV6500 reels.

GEAR SETS

• Make a good thing even better. Upgrade select Penn SSV model reels with an aftermarket CNC Machined Gear Sets. Computer Numerical Control (CNC) offer a higher degree of machining precision and fabrication control. These gear sets of either aluminum or brass main gears along with brass pinion gears. This is an upgrade from the cast zinc main and brass pinion set in the standard reel. The Aluminum or Brass main gear material is a specially chosen alloy for the application.
• The SSV5500 and SSV6500 gear sets are offered two ways; aluminum or brass main gear. If you have a SSV5500 reel you could purchase either the 5500 gear set with aluminum main gear, or the 6500 gear set with the brass main gear. Same if you have an SSV6500 reel, you could purchase either. No other models have inter-changeable aluminum or brass main gears.

SHIMS

• Each SKU s contains 1 x Main Drive Gear, 1 x Pinion Gear, & 2 x shims. Use a shim(s) as needed. Be careful not to damage any parts during the installation of the upgraded as this would not be covered under Penn's Manufacturing Warranty. You will need to assemble the reel to check the play. After assembly the reel should turn and spin very easy. If it does spin easily them hold the reel tight and push and pull on the handle and see if there is any play in and out where the handle screws in. There is should be no "play" on Penn reels. If there is play add another shim under the bearing. If the reel is to tight remove one. Shimming improves the contact between the main and pinion gears in the spinning reels The shim goes on the wide end of the main gear, between gear and bearing. Some reels might not need a shim while others might need 1 or 2. You know there are too many shims being used when the reel starts to bind up. Make corrections accordingly.
