St. Joseph’s Alumni Association June 19, 2010 St. Joseph’s School for the Deaf
ASSIGNMENT & USE OF EXHIBIT SPACE: The SJAA will assign exhibit space tables for each exhibitor. The number of exhibit spaces is limited, no exhibit space will be reserved (held) unless full payment and this contract are received prior to June 11, 2010. Although it is the SJAA’s intent to place exhibitors in their space(s) of choice, it may not always be possible. The SJAA reserves the right to close an exhibit and withdraw its acceptance of this contract when, in SJAA’s judgment, the exhibitor violates the school rules, fail to abide by the terms of this contract, or conducts itself in a manner offensive to generally accepted standards of decency or good taste. EXHIBIT SETUP AND OPERATION: The Exhibitor understands and agrees that all expenses for shipping and handling of the exhibit into and out of the event area, for erection and decoration of the display, and for all other costs incidental to the operation of the display, are not part of the event fee and are to be paid by the Exhibitor. An Exhibitor shall not assign to a third party its right hereunder to an exhibit space or any portion thereof without prior written consent of the SJAA. Exhibitor may set-up their display on Saturday, June 19, 2010 in the morning (8 a.m.). School Facility: Exhibitor shall comply with all the rules of the school and the SJAA in connection with its installation, use and dismantling of the exhibit. No alcoholic beverages, other than SJAA sanctioned receptions, may be served in the exhibit or event areas. INDEMNFICATION: Exhibitor agrees to indemnify and hold the SJAA and school harmless from and against any losses, damages, claims, expenses or liability (including reasonable attorneys’ fee) for (a) any injury to persons or property resulting from its use of the school or SJAA event if such injury results from its negligence or intentional misconduct, or (b) its failure to comply with the terms of this contract. The school and SJAA are not held responsible for lost or stolen property unless such property is placed in the school’s safe deposit boxes. LaGuardia Community College - ASL-English Interpreter Education Program Presents... Advanced ASL I Advanced ASL I is an intensive, hands-on course that will foster your development of ASL fluency. Our multimedia Interpreting Lab will be used as a tool to reinforce your process of expressing ASL in various registers such as telling a narrative tale, giving a formal presentation, and engaging in dialogue. The course also covers basic ASL linguistics, cultural rules, and the Deaf Community and its history. ** For serious ASL students who have been intently studying ASL for at least the past 2 years and who have been actively involved in the Deaf Community. ** Fee: $439 Dates: Wednesdays, September 22—December 8, 2010 Time: 6:00—8:30 pm Location: Interpreting Lab, C-244 Carmen King is currently an adjunct ASL instructor at New York University and LaGuardia Community College. She also teaches ASL at the Sign Language Center in Manhattan. Carmen attended the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1999, and continues her education through American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) and Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) workshops. SAVE THE DATE!! -- ASL-Interpreted Kol Nidre Service (September 17th) As we start our 6th(!)-straight year of ASL-interpreted Services and events, New York’s Tifereth Israel-Town & Village (T&V) Synagogue (www.tandv.org) will be hosting our first sign-language-interpreted Kol Nidre Service on Friday evening, September 17th, the start of Yom Kippur, and we hope you can join us! The Service will begin with a brief Mincha (Afternoon Service) at 6:00 PM, and will take place at the neighboring 14th Street Y, 344 East 14th Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenues in Manhattan. Our interpreting team will again include Cathy Markland and Bram Weiser. IMPORTANT: Space is limited, so reservations are STRONGLY suggested. We are excited to be able to invite you to attend High Holy Day services at Congregation Bnai Keshet.
Bnai Keshet welcomes members and non-members alike to participate in our services. We are committed to this open door policy throughout the High Holy Day season. We believe that we are all enriched by learning and praying together, supporting and sustaining the Jewish community. So we have room for everyone, most High Holy Day services are held at Central Presbyterian Church, 46 Park St., Montclair NJ.
For the third consecutive year, Congregation Bnai Keshet will be providing CART (Communication Access Real-Time Captioning) for our High Holy Day services. There is no cost for attending services at Bnai Keshet, but we do ask that you register on our website.

LaGCC Workshop: ASL Conceptual Blending Using Visual Media 9/25 |
LaGuardia Community College - Division of Adult and Continuing Education ASL-English Interpretation Program “ASL Conceptual Blending Using Visual Media” American Sign Language (ASL) is similar to the “language of film;” both are fully animated and include rich visual cues. Using movie clips to draw comparisons between the two, you will focus on grammatical features of ASL, such as Surrogate Space, Depicting Verbs (classifiers), and examples of ASL sentence structures. You’ll also practice translating movie clips (verbal and nonverbal language) into ASL using these concepts as well as other ASL features, such as mental-spatial orientations. Date: Saturday, September 25, 2010 Time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Where: LaGuardia Community College, E-building, Room E-500 Cost: $80.00 Jason Norman is an ASL instructor, performer, consultant and workshop presenter. He teaches ASL at the University of Pittsburgh and in the Interpreter Education Program at LaGuardia Community College. Other professional activities in New York City include teaching Deaf and CODA students from pre-kindergarten through high school in ASL, Arts and Mathematics, and hosting a monthly performance at the Bowery Poetry Club called “ASL Slam!” He holds an MA in Teaching ASL as a Foreign Language from Columbia University and an MA from McDaniel College in Deaf Education. David Rivera, a native of the Bronx, NY, graduated from Lexington School for the Deaf and received his BA in ASL Studies from Gallaudet University and MA in Deaf Education from McDaniel College, MD. In 1997, Mr. Rivera began his ASL teaching career at Gallaudet University and continues at LaGuardia Community College as an adjunct instructor in the ASL-English Interpretation Program. He is also a full-time professor in the ASL & Deaf Studies and ASL-English Interpreting Programs at Union County College NJ. The New York Mets are proud to host the 4th Annual Deaf & Hard of Hearing Awareness Day Presented by the Children's Hearing Institute Saturday, September 18, 2010 @ 4:10pm New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves Sit together with supporters and members of the deaf and hard of hearing community. Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913–1917 Thursday, September 23, 2010, 5:30 p.m. For deaf and hard of hearing visitors We are pleased to invite you to join us for Interpreting MoMA, our bimonthly program for deaf adults. Each month's program will begin with a wine and cheese reception, followed by a sign language-interpreted or voice-interpreted private gallery talk focusing on one of MoMA's special exhibitions. In conjunction with the exhibition Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913–1917 Interpreting MoMA is free of charge. This program meets in the lobby of The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, located at 4 West 54th Street between 5th and 6th avenues. Due to space constraints, no sign language students are permitted. Space is limited and preregistration is required. Henri Matisse in the Twenty-first Century Wednesday, September 15, 2010, 6:00 p.m. Theater 3 (The Celeste Bartos Theater), mezzanine, The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building Matisse's art continues to be popular, but also to be misunderstood as an art of hedonistic pleasure. This lecture, presented by John Elderfield, Chief Curator Emeritus, Department of Painting and Sculpture, and organizer of the exhibition Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913–1917, explores the important lessons that Matisse's art, and his attitudes towards it, continue to teach us more than a century after he burst into public attention. In conjunction with the exhibition Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913–1917 Tickets ($10; $8 members; $5 students, seniors, and staff of other museums) can be purchased online or at the lobby information desk and the film desk. The Queens Museum of Art is pleased to announce our monthly Signed Sundays Program. This monthly program will feature American Sign Language interpretation for our tour of the historic Panorama of the city of New York. Help us make this tour successful by joining us and offering feedback to enhance the accessibility of our museum.
Panorama of the City of New York: The Panorama is the jewel in the crown of the collection of the Queens Museum of Art. Built by Robert Moses for the 1964 World’s Fair, in part as a celebration of the City’s municipal infrastructure, this 9,335 square foot architectural model includes every single building constructed before 1992 in all five boroughs; that is a total of 895,000 individual structures.

United States Merchant Marine Academy 300 Steamboat Road Kings Point, NY 11024 From Points South and West: Either I-95 (the New Jersey Turnpike) North or I-80 East to the George Washington Bridge. Continue straight and follow signs for the Cross Bronx Expressway (DO NOT exit in Manhattan). Take the Cross Bronx Expressway, and follow signs to either the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge or the Throgs Neck Bridge. Take either Bridge. (See bridge directions "3" or "4" below). From New England and Points North: I-95 (the New England Thruway) South to Exit 7A in New York (bearing left to I-695) to the Throgs Neck Bridge. (See bridge directions "3" below). From the Throgs Neck Bridge: Bear right while crossing the bridge, and take the exit on the right for the Cross Island Parkway. Take the Cross Island Parkway to Exit 31E (Northern Boulevard, Route 25A). (See directions "6" below). From the Bronx Whitestone Bridge: Bear left while crossing the bridge, and take the exit on the left at the end of the bridge onto the Cross Island Parkway. Upon exiting the Tunnel and paying the toll, proceed straight ahead onto the Long Island Expressway (I-495 East). Take the Long Island Expressway to Exit 32 (Little Neck Parkway). Make a left (heading North) onto Little Neck Parkway for approximately 3/4- mile, to Northern Boulevard. Turn right onto Northern Boulevard, Route 25A. From Northern Boulevard, Route 25A: Proceed East (1.4 miles from the Cross Island Parkway; .3 mile from Little Neck Parkway) through the village of Little Neck and several traffic lights to the intersection with Great Neck Road. There is a four-story, brown office building on the left, and two (2) left turn lanes at this intersection. You should be in one of the two left turn lanes. Proceed left (North) on Great Neck Road, and continue straight (always bearing left, even when the roads fork off to the right). Continue North, as the road changes names to Bayview Avenue and then to West Shore Road (the distance you will travel on this road is about 2.5 miles). At end of West Shore Road (a STOP Sign), turn right onto Kings Point Road. Proceed to the next stop sign and make a left onto Steamboat Road.
